Use it, Don’t Abuse it!

Author: Stewards | Filed under: Lore

Greetings Netizens.

With all the recent changes now seems like a good time to post a quick reminder about a couple of rules that all players agree to when joining and are expected to follow when playing and enjoying The Nethernet

The subject is Alts. What is an alt you may ask.

An alt, or Alternative account is a second, or sometimes third account that a player can create and use to play the game.  There is no rule against creating multiple accounts, although obviously it would be great if everyone used only one account.

Maybe you have an urge to blow things up, but like to keep your main account as a Destroyer free zone. Creating another account for reasons like this is perfectly fine.

While there is no rule against creating multiple accounts, what is not allowed is to make an account and use it to assist, interact or improve your main account.

Examples of this would be using an account to mine another one, or to take missions that the main user created, each of those actions will earn you classpoints and this is classed as cheating, it will lead to a suspension, or even a total ban.

We know this has been happening, it does not go unseen, and many members of the community are disheartened when they see a user rising through the levels unfairly.

Cheating, along with the other rules and guide to expected conduct within the game and the Chat rooms can be found in the Terms of Service and Community Standards pages of the guide.

This post is not the beginning of a witch hunt, it is more of an Amnesty announcement. We know this happens, but now is the time to stop.

Our common goal is to have a friendly, successful, and fair game, and any form of cheating upsets all of this.

So by all means create enough accounts to match your personalities, but keep them separate.

Thanks

The Stewards

Hoggins rewards all. Even the Destroyers!!

Author: Thomas Hoggins | Filed under: Special Happenings

Good day Nethernetters.

While browsing the forums recently, I saw a phrase that I hadn’t heard in quite some time.

“There Is No Such Thing As A Free Lunch”

This set my mind a racing, and not just about food…  I began thinking what I could do to reward my beloved Benefactors, who quite literally clog the tubes with crates and wondrous gifts for everyone.

Maybe a Crate sale, maybe some free Armor, perhaps free Pings, all of these (excluding my humorous entry of course) would be welcomed, but so often I reward one group only to forget about another so I decided to stretch out a hand to all, and award Double Classpoints for all tools, not just the order tools, every tool you can use.

Just a small example of what this will mean.  A Crate will earn you 30 Benefactor points, a Mine, 10 points, Grenades will earn 20 points, both for the Destroyers  for Vigilante.  The full list of Classpoints can be found in the guide here

There may be no better time to use as many of your tools as possible, with levelling in each association made twice as easy for at least 24 hours after I have all the numbers crunched, and the guide updated, which should be around 10am PST.

Let it never be said that Thomas Hoggins thinks only of order.

Order Forever, Chaos Never.

500 Bacon offer.

Author: Thomas Hoggins | Filed under: Special Happenings

Good day Nethernetters.

Many of you have already taken advantage of my “Look good and earn 100,000 DP” offer which rewarded anyone purchasing items from The Nethernet store on Zazzle which can be found here.

To recognise users who have already ordered from the Store, or anyone who places a new order I am amending the offer to make sure that you receive the best possible reward for supporting Gamelayers and also getting yourself some pretty great clothing, or any of the other cool products.  I have ordered myself a calendar for 2010.

The new reward for orders placed in the store is 500 Bacon added to your profile, and claiming the Bacon couldn’t be easier.  The $15 order value is still in place, but fear not if your mug is $14.95, that is close enough.

I have already supplied Merci with the names of everyone who placed an order during my promotion and I believe you should have received the Bacon.

So if you are thinking of ordering a t-shirt , some stickers , a calendar or even one of those destroyer mugs getting 500 Bacon is as easy as 1, 2, 3.

1. Place order here
2. Pmail @merci with your order number.
3. Get Bacon

Yours,

Thomas.

TNN 0.8.6: Sweet, Sweet Maintenance

Author: justin | Filed under: Releases

The Nethernet toolbar version 0.8.6 was just released, with a number of bugfixes:

- We’ve repaired overlays so that they should no longer disappear and re-appear.
- DP will now be awarded based on your own activity rather than at the top of the hour. For every hour that you’re active, you should earn hourly datapoints.
- The “stash” button on crates should now gray-out after you’ve clicked on it once.
- The “ally” and “rival” buttons should work again on overlays.
- We’ve also done more work on making the game run a bit faster. :)

Download the new version of The Nethernet on addons.mozilla.org. We’ve posted about this release in the Forums – you can read up and comment there!

Take a portal and earn datapoints!

Author: merci | Filed under: Features, NoW

The cries of Chaos have been heard. You’ll now earn 25 datapoints for traveling through portals, in addition to the DP you earn hourly and the DP you earn from taking missions.

This change is going out momentarily.

TNN 0.8.5: Overclock or Impede? Earn DP in a New Way!

Author: merci | Filed under: Releases

Pick up the new toolbar for an exciting holiday weekend! In fact, if you don’t upgrade to this version of The Nethernet, you won’t be able to earn datapoints.

Players who have earned the Inviting Badge (get this by having 5 invites from your sign-up link accepted) now have access to the first beneficial/detrimental Abilities on The Nethernet. Overclock is available to members of Order; it grants the player the ability to “buff” another player with a bonus to his Classpoints earned for the next 5 tool uses. Impede is available to members of Chaos; it grants the player the ability to “debuff” another player with a reduction of her Classpoints earned for the next 5 tool uses.

You've been Overclocked!

You've been Overclocked!

If you decide to switch factions and you qualified for one of these abilities, you’ll have the corresponding ability on the other faction.

The most radical change in this release is that everyone will earn datapoints (DP) in a new way. Instead of earning DP for each new website that you go to, you’ll now be earning DP if your toolbar is on, at the top of the hour each hour. We’ll take whatever your primary level is and multiply that by 25, then give you that amount of datapoints.

So that you can still maximize the amount of DP that you earn each day, you’ll now earn 10 DP for each lightpost you pass in a mission you take. You won’t earn DP from taking your own mission, however. If you take a mission that has 4 lightposts in it, you’ll earn 40 DP.

We’ve removed the redundant “Create” option in the toolbar, instead you’ll have Skeleton Keys within easy reach. This version of the toolbar will automatically log you into the toolbar. We’ve fixed various bugs and whatnot, to see a full list, read the Patch Notes in the Forums.

Ninefinder’s Sabotage

Author: merci | Filed under: Lore

Professor Esper watching the small robot race across his desk and fall ungracefully into a trash can at the end. He retrieved the bot, legs still furiously pumping, and checked its meter.

“Question, Query: What are the results?” asked Ninefinder.

Overclick“Ten classpoints for that run across the desk. Until now I’ve only been able to get 5 out of this little guy.” Esper switched off the robot and placed it on the desk again. “I’m going to let Jerdu and Thomas know that we’re able to overclock the classpoints system now. They’ll be quite pleased.”

Esper walked out of his office. Ninefinder could hear him tapping out a PMail at the end of the hall.

Ninefinder gingerly walked to the desk and picked up the smaller robot. He opened its casing and fiddled for a few minutes. He placed the robot at the end of the desk and turned it on. The robot methodically walked across the surface, at a much slower speed than it had raced before. Ninefinder picked it up and read its meter: Zero.

“Question, Inquiry: What have we here?” Ninefinder softly asked.

A tiny mechanical bug flew through a crack in the wooden floor and alighted on Ninefinder’s shoulder. It chirped questioningly at Ninefinder. “Statement, Direct Answer:  Yes, I think so too,” said one robot to the other. “Everything should be balanced.”
