Action by The Reserve Bank of TNN

Charles Nethersby, Reserve Bank Chairmen of TNN

[Begin Transmission: Until 29 May, 0900 PST Ping values are doubled on TNN]

Today the The Reserve Bank of TNN took its first official action in a number of years in response to the growing popularity of Zous Bucks. The Reserve Bank Chairmen, Charles Nethersby, said in a news conference, “Due to concern over the growing interest in “alternate currency” within the Nethernet, The Reserve Bank is increasing the number of Pings Netherati earn throughout The Nethernet. We will be increasing the amount issued for today only to double its usual rate and assess the situation further from there.

Mr. Thomas Hoggins Esq. himself, the wealthiest Nethernaut, was contacted for comment: “There is no need to read too heavily into the action today by The Reserve Bank,” said Hoggins. “During the Leaderboards Crash of 2008, and due to a number of actions by my colleagues Datapoint and Ping rates have been adjusted in order to correct imbalances. This is standard procedure.” When Hoggins was asked if he had set about investing in Zous Bucks or had visited the Goldensneaker, he declined to comment.

[End Transmission; Zousware ventures are considered safe by TNN, but bugs may still occur. Play/invest at your own risk!]

Let’s Play Games in Firefox

Author: justin | Filed under: Features

If you build a great web site, people visit, have a good time and eventually leave. If you build a great Firefox extension, you have the potential to improve every minute of someone’s browsing life. Think about how much time we spend browsing the web – improving someone’s browsing experience is powerful!

If you build a game in a Firefox extension, you can mix play with all our actions online. Firefox might seem like an unlikely platform for Games. It’s a browser, right? Firefox is a way that people can reach other information.

But Firefox represents something more. Firefox is the chosen browser. Unless you run Linux as your primary operating system (and few people do), you had to choose Firefox over Safari, or Firefox over Internet Explorer. Why would you choose Firefox? Because it’s more secure, perhaps. Or because it’s faster on your system. Or maybe you chose Firefox because it’s flexible and open – anyone can make an extension that will improve some part of your online life. At GameLayers we believe that social fun is a big improvement in everyday browsing.

Official Class Mission Contest Winners!

Author: joe | Filed under: Events

Please join in on congratulating the following winners of the Official Class Mission Contest! Over 20 Missions were submitted and the competition was very tough. We made our selections based on what we thought would be the best initial experience for a brand-new TNN player to experience. Every Mission that was made did an excellent job laying a foundation for its respective Class, but we had to choose just one (or in some cases two) and here they are:

Order's Official Class Missions!

Order's Official Class Missions!

Bedouin: bunni3burn’s Bedouin Basics: The Guide [Part 1] & hollowleviathan’s Bedouin: A course in Offensive Armor [Part 2].

Benefactor: chetyre’s Being a Benefactor.

Pathmaker: nitwit88’s Effective Use of the Light of Order [Part 1] & mortmer’s A Concise Guide to Pathmaking [Part 2].

Chaos's Official Class Missions!

Destroyer: shyiskhar’s Destroyers: An Introduction [Part 1] & JamesCannon’s Destroyers [Part 2].

Seer: sobeknerfu’s Seer School: Overview of Seerdom 101.

Vigilante: Geb’s Being in the Vigilante Class [Part 1] & Riko’s Vigilante Basics [Part 2].

We’d also like to honor the following honorable mentions:

madragoran’s Laying out the Ariadnes Thread: The Pathmakers.
sylverling’s An Abundant Life: The Crate & A Memory of Portals.

From here, I’ll be going through, editing the titles and descriptions and marking them as Official Missions! We’ll then also integrate them into the stream of PMails/objectives new players receive in one of the coming releases.

Thanks again to not only the winners and honorable mentions, but to everyone who submitted a Mission. They were simply fantastic!

Scheduled Saturday Maintenance, 23 May, 10 AM PST

Author: joe | Filed under: Maintenance

Greetings, Players,

Beginning around 10:00 AM PST, Saturday, 23 May 2009, The Nethernet servers will be intermittently down for up to 9 hours. We are making systemic changes to our database and will be running a number of migrations. During this time all TNN services, aside from TNN Chat will most likely be unavailable or unresponsive.

Afterwards the servers should be significantly improved as far as response time and overall stability.

We appreciate your understanding, and wish you a happy Memorial Day weekend, for those of you in the United States!

Thank you,
GameLayers

General Jerdu Gains

[Until 5/22/08 at 9 AM PST, Players will receive 5 DP for not wearing Armor and only 1 DP for wearing Armor.]

Dear Bloody Tuesday,

“I was informed that today is your birthday. Although we have not always seen eye to eye. I believe in second chances, and I am willing to put my defenses to the side, if you are are willing to lay down your arms. Consider this an olive branch, an invitation to a truce.

“In honor of your birthday, my gift to you is the undonning of my armor for the day. I have also negotiated so that datapoints will flow more easily to those not wearing armor in honor of your birthday. Though one still wonders why your parents named you Tuesday, when the day of your birth was a Thursday, though that is neither here nor there. Consider my offer Bloody Tuesday, and Happy Birthday to you.”

Sincerely yours,
General Jerdu Gains

TNN 0.8.2: Bug Fixes and Improved Events Carousel

Author: joe | Filed under: Releases

The Nethernet 0.8.2 is now available for your playing pleasure. This version is essentially the same as TNN 0.8.1, but contains a number of bug fixes and improvements to the Events Carousel.

Patch notes are available to read here on the forums and contain information regarding the bugs this version addresses.

Mark all as Read Functionality Added!

Event Carousel Improvements
You asked, we listened!
Based on your feedback after the initial release of TNN 0.8.1, we heard that a number of you more active players are blessed (and cursed) with a huge amount of Events to scroll through when you first log in each day in the Events Carousel. To help you overcome your popularity, we have added a “Mark All as Read” function to both the overlay itself, and the Notices PMail Inbox.
