We are planning a big change to the PMOG toolbar. This month, we’re aiming to launch 0.6, with the following changes:
* PMOG toolbar top-aligned
* PMOG toolbar more than 2x thinner
* PMOG toolbar with more one-click buttons (no more navigating a menu to lay a Mine or draw a Portal – thanks for your feedback!)
We want to make it easy to use PMOG tools as we surf the web. We’ve been at the bottom of people’s browsers over a year now. We think we can get a lot more PMOG action if we put the toolbar up top, and make the tools one click away.
Your Stewards suggested we should include a preference for people to select top or bottom alignment for the toolbar. Perhaps having the toolbar at the bottom of the screen is more discrete, and we should let players keep PMOG there.
Did you know PMOG used to be in a Firefox sidebar in mid-2007?
We thought long and hard about this suggestion to offer a top/bottom PMOG preference. If we include a preference to set the PMOG toolbar at the top or bottom, we have to make PMOG awesome from the bottom, and awesome from the top. Any custom animations or effects, relationship between the button and a corresponding overlay, distance of the overlays from the toolbar – it would all have to be calibrated for two different alignments and orientations. With the team we have, and the time we have, we want to focus on making one awesome game experience. So I don’t think we can offer a preference for top or bottom at this time – we can only offer one awesome toolbar 
Some of you are probably going to be pretty disturbed by this move – you’re used to PMOG being where it’s been since early 2008! Now it’s early 2009, and we want to ask you to try a new toolbar experience.
See what you think; we’re going to be releasing this new version in the next three weeks, and we believe 0.6 is the most fun PMOG has ever been.
