Pings! A new social currency on PMOG

Author: merci | Filed under: Features

We’ve recently launched a new currency for PMOG: Pings. Pings are a social currency that you earn by interacting with other players. Anytime that you play with someone, you should earn Pings.

Over the next releases of the game, you’ll start to be able to spend your Pings. Pings upgrade tools to give them special functionality. Benefactors will spend Pings to upgrade their Crates to a Puzzle Crate.

For now we’re letting you collect them so that you start off with a goodly sum.

This is how to earn Pings:

Help us make tips for PMOG players!

Author: merci | Filed under: Features

After seeing the totally rad jokes about the strange new tips in the bottom of the web browser from uselessness, we thought we’d try to get your help in making some more of these.

Is there anything that you wish you’d have known as a wee Shoat? Are there any jokes that we should be telling players?

Download our starter pack and have at it! Post your contributions on this forum thread.

Author: joe | Filed under: Maintenance

Update: As of 13:00 PST, 19 Nov 2008, everything appears to be back to normal.  If you encounter any further difficulty please contact help at pmog dot com.  Thanks!

Well met, Passive-ist,

As of 12:00 PST, 19 Nov 2008, PMOG has been suffering from database issues; this has caused dramatic latency, 500 errors and timeouts from the PMOG servers.  Our engineers and developers are working diligently to resolve this issue.  However, this is no ETA on a resolution at this time.

Please check back here for updates.  They will be provided as soon as additional relevant information becomes available.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Yours,
Joe Wagner

Author: wordsmith | Filed under: Features

(Hey, PMOGers! OctalBlack, a game design intern here at GameLayers, is initiating a series of fiction-based stories revolving around events happening in our Community, and regarding changes to the game itself; this is the first of many! If you have something you’d like written up in a cool, meta-fictional way like this, drop us a line with your Community event at community at pmog dot com. Enjoy! -burdenday)

Playing PMOG with a hidden toolbar

Author: kristin | Filed under: Features, Releases

Howdy PMOGers! I am excited to announce that now you can be even more discrete about your PMOG usage, available to you now in PMOG version .5.13. :-) Yeah, I know that you play PMOG at work.

I do, too. It’s ok. (I won’t tell if you won’t.) ;-)

Anywho, I digress. The whole thing is pretty darn simple so I’ll just show you a little bit of it.

In short, there is now a nifty little typewriter key with the letter P on it in the browser toolbar.

this typewriter key is your friend

0.5.13: Stealth Mode; Banishing the Red Shoat of Death

Author: justin | Filed under: Features, Releases

A new version of PMOG!

New art from Colin Adams (and a bit from Nick Kole) decorates many of the events! And a few new icons from David Phillips, with more to come.

We have banished the Red Shoat of Death (and the Black one too) – those notices will now show up in your PMOG toolbar, instead of bumping the top of your tabs.

PMOG button in the browser Navigation Bar
press this to hide or show the toolbar

We’ve added a PMOG button in the navigation bar, so you can hide or show the PMOG toolbar easily.

Now, if you hide the PMOG toolbar, PMOG events are hidden too.  PMOG Stealth Mode! So you can surf at work, earn datapoints and nothing will pop up. Mines will still take your datapoints away! Hiding the toolbar will not hide you from the Destroyers.

Green/blue

Ao P button means:
Hey! There’s a game event on this page!
Click the button to show your toolbar, and the trap or treasure that awaits!

If you’ve hidden the PMOG toolbar, that button will change color to let you know there’s a PMOG event on the page you’re surfing. If you’re surfing, and there’s a crate or portal or something exciting, that button will change to let you know.  Click it to reveal a hidden world of playful surprise!

Puzzle Crates are now available to level 7 Benefactors.

Press the “Escape” key to quickly make PMOG overlays disappear.

Finally, we reworked the tiny gears running our extension and now it should conflict less with other extensions.  Specifically, we changed our global reference variable so it wouldn’t conflict with other extensions and libraries.  That could help decrease any mysterious game events that wouldn’t open or PMail that couldn’t be replied to, etc.

Next up for GameLayers: we’re building more advanced tools, and more features to bring your acquaintances into the browser.  We love working on PMOG, and we’re so glad you’re playing on the web with us :-D
